“Retiring the flag so it will live on forever.” - Chris Justice
Born Christopher Matthew Boster in Long Beach CA, the name Justice was derived from the punk rock band OC Justice in which Chris was the lead singer/guitarist. Founded in 2004, the band ran up and down the west coast playing the club circuit opening for national acts such as LA Guns, Agent Orange, Long Beach Dub Allstars, and Channel 3 to name a few. Justice quickly gained a reputation in the SoCal rock world which kept him employed as a touring/studio musician until 2011, which at that point made his pivot into the art world.
After being silently interested in art for much of his life and experiencing “the gift” of talent, Justice chose the MFA route at the community college level in hopes of transferring to university but scraped the idea after only a year to find something more hands-on. Justice found a unique position as an apprentice in Laguna Canyon under the renowned sculptor Elaine Cohen where he spent two years learning color theory, studio management, and most importantly sales.
In 2014, Justice was discovered by Architect and Real Estate Developer Howard Spunt who had recently entered the art world and offered him an exhibition at his newly opened Los Angeles gallery. Spunt groomed Justice in pairing world class art with philanthropy which resulted in several collaborations with The Chase Foundation. Since then, Justice’s work has been shown via solo exhibitions in cities such as New York City, Dallas, Austin, and San Francisco. His work has been published by the likes of the Los Angeles Times, including a cover story in Art Patron Magazine, Art Voices Magazine and an inclusion in The Armory Show in New York City.
Justice is known for his large, bold, sweeping abstractions and floral paintings as well as his patriotic “Freedom Of Speech” series where he implements a physical American Flag in the work as he has collected old flags since he was a child. The series motto is “retiring the flag so it will live on forever.”
Justice’s work is celebrated in households across North America. The Artist is planned to open his first major institutional exhibition in the fall of 2024 at Soka University Founders Hall Art Museum which will feature upwards of 200 works spanning from 2012-2023. In his free time the Artist enjoys playing golf and spending time with family. Chris Justice lives and works in Laguna Beach, CA.
